Tedx Lesson #1: An idea worth spreading is an idea worth surrendering to

One of the most powerful lessons I learned from my Tedx experience is how one idea can radically transform your life…if you allow it.

When I applied to speak at TedxBend, I wanted to talk about the Inner Voice. I had been kicking around the idea for a couple years prior to that of applying what I had learned as a coach to adults & entrepreneurs to parents and their kids, but I wasn’t sure what that would look like, so I kept shoving that idea to the back of my mind and heart, thinking it might go away.

It never would.

So, when they suggested I apply my idea to the context of parenting, I knew that this was exactly what I needed to do, and it was time to do it – even if I had no idea what it looked like.

I’ll be honest.

I struggled. I resisted (you’ll read more about this in Lesson #2!). Even though deep inside I knew this was exactly what I was meant to do, I had a lot of shame & guilt around how I had little voice parenting moments (hell, let’s be honest…days!) with my kiddos and the idea that I wanted to share felt like a big leap, and brought into question not only my own beliefs about parenting, but also my behaviors.

It’s really important for me to be in integrity, so in order to share an idea with others, I knew I’d have to be living and practicing it myself or else the message would fall flat. I would know, and others would energetically know, I was not living from my heart & soul. There are plenty of talking heads in the world, and I didn’t want to be another one of them.

There’s no energy to transform anyone or anything if an idea isn’t lived…

As I let go of resistance (which was really most of the work I did to prepare for my talk) I learned a whole lot about myself and my family and what’s important.

An idea worth spreading is an idea worth surrendering to.

If you let your idea change your own life, then you will have changed the world already.

So my friend, what’s your big idea?

And are you willing to surrender to it?

Are you willing to allow the idea to take hold of you and transform you and your life?

If so, whether you ever step onto a Ted stage, or any other stage for that matter, you are a thought leader and are making a difference on all of our behalf.

(Thank you for your dedication.)

From My Heart to Yours,
Kris
