sacral warrior...notes from the field

Most people would rather die than…

Most people would rather die than…

“According to most studies, people’s number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you’re better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.”

Jerry Seinfeld

Yep, Most people would rather die than speak in public.  Are you one of them?

If so, how is that affecting your business?

How is that affecting your relationships?

Your life?

Some people are fine one-on-one but as more and more people are listening in, they really struggle to find the words.

Others, I find, are fine in front of a group of ‘strangers’ (maybe they are a teacher, or leader in the workplace and the information they are speaking about is not personal), but when it comes to speaking up in their own family or in a more intimate setting–they get tongue-tied and become withdrawn.  They go with the status quo, because it’s far easier than rocking the boat.

Problems with this is, it creates elephants in the room.  Things unspoken.  Things that create even more of a block to opening up from our hearts. Pretty soon, everyone’s walking around with walls and layers of protection, complaining that nobody knows the real me.  And yet, the fear of expressing the real you is so great, you’d do anything to keep it under wraps.

What or Who are you keeping under wraps?

If you’re thinking, “I’d rather die than have to get up in front of others and speak, or have to really tell the truth about how I feel in my close relationships” then 1) you’re not alone! 2) what is it costing you?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.  What are your biggest fears and concerns around speaking in public and/or sharing your innermost truth with those closest to you?

From my Heart to Yours,

Kris
